Blood Vessels of the Hand
A dense vascular network keeps the hand alive and allows injured tissues to heal.
Arterial supply
The radial and ulnar arteries enter the hand and contribute to interconnected superficial and deep palmar arches.
Digital circulation
Common and proper digital arteries travel into the fingers, usually as paired vessels along the sides of each digit.
Why circulation matters in trauma
A finger that becomes pale, blue, cold or progressively painful after injury may have compromised blood flow. This is an urgent problem.
Microsurgery
When vessels are extremely small, repair may require magnification and microsurgical technique. Replantation and free-tissue transfer depend on reliable arterial inflow and venous drainage.
