Terms of Membership
Terms governing ESSHM membership applications, member records and use of Society resources.
Last updated: 5 August 2026.
Applying for Membership
Membership of ESSHM is open to those meeting the criteria set out under Categories & Eligibility. By applying you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and that you hold the qualifications and appointment you state.
Review of Applications
Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee and confirmed by the Executive Board. Submitting an application does not create membership. The Society may request further evidence, and may decline an application without giving reasons.
Your Membership Record
ESSHM keeps a record of your membership details. Tell us promptly if any of your details change so that your record, and any directory listing, stay accurate.
Member Content and Conduct
Members using Society resources agree not to redistribute members-only material, including recorded lectures and operative videos, outside the membership.
Where members contribute clinical material, they are responsible for ensuring that patient consent has been obtained and that identifying details have been removed.
Accuracy of Information
Clinical guidance and educational material published by the Society is provided for the professional education of its members. It does not replace the treating surgeon’s own judgement in an individual case, and the Society accepts no liability for clinical decisions taken in reliance on it.
Suspension and Termination
The Society may suspend or terminate membership where information provided was materially false, where subscription remains unpaid, or where conduct is incompatible with membership. Members may resign at any time by contacting the Society office.
Changes to These Terms
These terms may be revised. Continuing your membership after notice of a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
