Founding Figures
Professor Wael Mansour Fahmy, regarded as the godfather of hand surgery in Egypt, established the country’s first replantation laboratory in 1970 and one of its first microsurgery laboratories in 1979, and was recognised by the IFSSH as a Pioneer of Hand Surgery in 1998.
Professor Nash Naam encouraged Egyptian orthopaedic and plastic surgeons to unite behind a national society through annual visits from 1997, and Professor Yehia Bassiouny completed the legal and administrative work that established ESSHM in September 2007.
