01 · Overview

Biography

Professor Ahmed Fathy Mohammed Sadek is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Minia University and Head of its Hand and Microsurgery Unit. He became President of ESSHM on 6 May 2026, following service on the Society’s Executive Board from 2018 to 2026. His academic career brings together clinical reconstruction, postgraduate training and research into the restoration of hand and upper-limb function.

He graduated from Minia University in 2001 and completed his master’s degree in 2006, with a thesis on arthroscopy in chronic ankle pain. A visiting fellowship at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2008–2009 developed his reconstructive microsurgery training. His doctorate, completed in 2012, concerned vascularized bone grafting for upper-limb bone defects. He subsequently led the Minia Hand and Microsurgery Unit and became Professor in 2022.

His research addresses flexor tendon repair, nerve compression, brachial plexus reconstruction, fracture fixation and bone nonunion. He co-authored the 2026 IFSSH consensus on flexor tendon repair and reconstruction with an international group led by Jin Bo Tang, as well as an earlier review of contemporary flexor tendon methods. He has also contributed to Current Practice in Hand Surgery. Together, these publications connect the Minia unit’s clinical experience with wider international discussion of reconstructive practice.
